Solitary Line
Every time I see that line,
I think back to a simpler time.
Back when there was more to my mind
than that silly little line.
This line is so lonely, you see,
more lonely than you without me.
Those who think that we're being too quick,
rarely worry about such a stick.
I wish that another would show,
so we can watch our own little one grow.
Every time there is but one line, down we go
to an all-time new low.
I wish just once that we could see,
I know that you agree,
On that silly little stick, another line.
That would so easily calm our minds.
Today is not the day the line will find a mate
so we will be in a disappointed state.
One day we hope that we may hear and see
the feet of one, two or even three.
Infant Deception
Do my eyes deceive me?
Can it really be?
After all this time,
am I really seeing that second line?
Excitement is bursting from my seams
as I tell the man of my dreams.
Together we will spread the word
of our joyous gift from that bird.
"Alas everyone, look and see!
What jovial grandparents you will be!
On the way, your niece or nephew,
Oh the spoiling you will do."
Days and hours pass.
Names, room decor, a lad or lass?
Fluttering with delight,
our future is looking so bright.
Then suddenly a change in song,
A feeling that something is very wrong.
I'm experiencing this pain,
The kind of pain my brain can not feign.
All that hope and ecstasy lost
we've paid that ultimate cost.
Our legacy is quickly gone,
that little one will see no dawn.
"You weren't that far" "Not a big deal"
Try being in our shoes, tell me how you feel.
"God always has a plan, a reason"
We want to be members of the club he's in.
So now we start again,
to reiterate where we've been.
Forget the other plans, they're tainted
Forget the dreams we had painted.
"Throw yourself into work"
"Or even better a good book"
Event removal, yeah that's helpful,
until there's a kid, then its just boastful.
Everything has taken a new look,
And I am more resentful for what he took.
Doesn't he know how bad we want one?
A resident in my "oven," our own little bun.
A munchkin, with my eyes,
the kind that can tell no lies.
A head full of their daddy's lucious curl,
around our fingers we would twirl.
Even on the days that are the worst,
It would feel so much better than this curse.
"It'll happen. It'll happen again."
Oh yeah? When? Please tell us when.
When can we look at one another
and not see the grief of each other?
When can we truly look forward at last,
and not worry about our child-bearing past?
It took so very long,
for that twin line to come along.
All we want in our lonely arms,
is a little one to protect from life's harms.
Can it really be?
After all this time,
am I really seeing that second line?
Excitement is bursting from my seams
as I tell the man of my dreams.
